Freesat Sri Lanka Specification , Technical , Satellite Details

Freesat Sri Lanka

The test broadcast of the first phase is scheduled to end today (13) at midnight, and we would like to express our gratitude to all those who have been interested in it and expressed their opinions, suggestions and accusations.

At the same time, about some comments made through social media
Freesat
We would like to announce our official response herewith.

1. Your FTA Receiver does not show signal or is not locked.
This is because the receiver is not DVB-S2X.

2. Scanning as channels, radio channels or after scanning, only audio is working and video is not visible.
This is because the receiver does not support HEVC/H.265.

3. Not seeing HD channels.
This is because the receiver does not support HEVC 10 bit. Although SD channels are HEVC 8 bit, HD and 4K channels have 10 bit depth, so it is mandatory for the chipset to support 10 bit.

4. Is it possible to watch every day with any FTA receiver?
All of the local channels as a National Network mainly broadcasting local channels with Digital technology.

In order to deliver uninterrupted content (eg Cricket) to all Sri Lankan households, we must legally prevent our signals from being received outside Sri Lankan territory. Therefore, even though it is a completely free service, encryption is mandatory because it has to be limited to only one STB that is legally available in Sri Lanka. Only Freesat STB supports that encryption and normal Free-to-Air receiver will not work accordingly. Therefore, we request you to refrain from purchasing FTA STBs that support DVB-S2X and HEVC at this time.

An STB with all these technologies and with Freesat encryption will soon be introduced at a very reasonable and affordable price. An important point to be emphasized here is that Freesat is in no way involved in the sale or installation of STBs and does not expect any profit through it. After the initial introduction, STB with related encryption can be imported, distributed and sold to any organization like other electronic devices and only some regulation is going to be done by us for quality control.

Marking a turning point in the history of Sri Lankan television, we express our gratitude to all the local channels, the Ministry of Media and the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission who have joined hands with us in this collective exercise of bringing the 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭a𝐥 𝐓𝐕 experience to all Sri Lankan homes equally free of charge.

Thanks again to everyone involved in the test broadcast and we look forward to bringing the official broadcast to your doorstep with the second phase of the test broadcast very soon.
